Counselling and CBT in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk - 01284 752845

Welcome to my website, I hope you find it helpful:

My name is Emma Taylor and I am a qualified Integrative counsellor and CBT Counsellor with a counselling and psychotherapy practice based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk close to other local towns such as Sudbury, Stowmarket, Haverhill, Newmarket, Cambridge, Ipswich, Mildenhall, Lakenheath and Diss.

I realise that if you are visiting my website, you may be doing so in search of some help, maybe you are suffering some sort of emotional turmoil, trauma, stress or depression from issues that are causing you considerable distress or maybe you would just like to find out more about who you are and why.

Becoming a Counsellor was something that I had never considered. I always felt I wanted to do something with business and this was the career I followed until a few years ago when a life changing event caused me to re-evaluate my future.

I struggled to make sense of anything whether it was relationships, friendships or myself. I knew that I had to find someone to talk to who didn’t know me and who could help me get my life back on track.

I found a Counsellor on the BACP website and went along for an initial session. She was warm, friendly and I liked her instantly. She was empathic and very focused on me. I looked forward to each session because of what I was learning about myself, although sometimes I dreaded the painful issues that I had to confront I knew that day by day I was feeling better about what had happened and also better about myself.

Qualified and professional Counsellors will always have had therapy themselves as part of their training and will be in and out of therapy for the rest of their career when they feel it necessary. This is how I know how difficult it can be to take that first step and how hard it can be to continue.

I believe to be a good Counsellor, you have to be empathic, non-judgemental, sincere, honest, patient, tolerant and an attentive listener, but most of all you have to provide the hope that it does eventually get better and it certainly did for me!

I went onto train to become a Counsellor and gained my degree and am now able to provide my clients with what my counsellor did for me:

A good counsellor will show you:

  • Respect
  • Be non judgemental
  • Respect your confidence
  • Listen and really hear you
  • Guide but never tell you what to do
  • Help you learn to look after yourself emotionally
  • Help you with coping strategies (CBT)
  • Help you acknowledge where your present actions come from

If you would like to call or e-mail me to discuss how I can help you, the telephone number is 01284 752845 or you can e-mail emma@burystedmundscounselling.co.uk.

    Best Wishes

    Emma
